Atomic mixtures with inelastic scattering — •Eder Santana Annibale, Oleksandr Fialko, and Klaus Ziegler — Universität Augsburg, Augsburg, Deutschland

The interaction of heavy atoms in a Mott state and light spin-1/2 fermionic atoms is studied in a double well potential. Inelastic scattering processes between both atomic species excite the heavy atoms and renormalize the tunneling rate (so called polaronic effect) as well as the interaction of the light atoms. An effective Hamiltonian for the latter is presented, wich describes tunneling of single fermions, tunneling of fermionic pairs and an exchange of fermionic spins. We study the dynamics of quantum states, which enables us to detect the signature of a first order phase transition between Néel and dimer states, as well as the polaronic effect.
