Interaction between resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) field and plasma rotation is one of the important physics issues for the application of instability control using RMP field in next fusion devices, i.e. ITER. On TEXTOR, the Dynamic Ergodic Divertor (DED) can produce either static or rotating fields. This allows a detailed study of the influence of RMP on plasma rotation. Recent experimental results show spin-up of plasma rotation with the application of a rotating m/n=3/1 RMP. In ohmic discharges, vperp , plasma velocity perpendicular to the field line, is accelerated in electron diamagnetic drift direction (EDD) during the application of a 5kHz RMP rotating in EDD direction. However, no clear effects on vperp were observed when the RMP rotating direction changed to ion diamagnetic drift direction. Here, vperp is measured by the reflectometry at the plasma edge. This result indicates that the spin up of the plasma rotation in EDD direction with a rotating RMP field on TEXTOR is mainly due to the electromagnetic torque induced by the shielding current on the rational surface. In this paper, the beta dependence of the plasma spin up effect with a rotating RMP will be also presented.
