Feshbach resonances of harmonically trapped atoms — •Philipp-Immanuel Schneider, Yulian V. Vanne, and Alejandro Saenz — AG Moderne Optik, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Newtonstraße 15, 12489 Berlin

Confined ultracold atoms with their interaction controlled by a magnetic Feshbach resonance (MFR) have vast and intriguing applications e.g. for studying new phases of matter, performing quantum information processing, or simulating condensed matter Hamiltonians. Employing a short-range two-channel description we derive an analytic model of atoms in isotropic and anisotropic harmonic traps at an MFR. On this basis we obtain an analytic expression for the admixture of the resonant bound state and a parameterization of the energy-dependent scattering length which differs from the one previously employed [1]. We validate the model by comparison to full numerical calculations for 6Li-87Rb and explain quantitatively the experimental observation of a resonance shift of trapped gases and of trap-induced molecules in exited bands and band gaps of an optical lattice.
