Spectroscopy and Imaging with Medipix3 — •Qiang Zhang, Patrick Takoukam Talla, Thilo Michel, and Gisela Anton — ECAP, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erwin-Rommel-Str. 1, 91058 Erlangen, Germany
Medipix3 is the latest generation of the hybrid photon counting semiconductor detector family (Medipix) from CERN. Due to its small pixel pitch (55 microns) the performance of Medipix2 imaging system is limited by the charge sharing effect, which means that an incoming photon may be registered by more than one pixel. As a result, the energy deposition spectrum is therefore substantially different from the incoming spectrum. Although Medipix3 has the same pixel size as Medipix2, it implements a new operation mode named Charge-Summing-Mode, aiming to remove the spectral distortion produced by the charge sharing process. In this mode the charge collected in a cluster of 2x2 pixels are summed up and assigned to the summing node with the largest energy deposition.
The goal of this presentation is to compare energy deposition spectrum acquired by Medipix3 in Charge-Summing-Mode and Single-Pixel-Mode, which is principally the same as the counting mode of Medipix2, for different incoming spectra. Images of different samples taken with Medipix3 in the two operation modes will also be presented.
