Feasibility study for proton decay search in IceCube — •Martin Wolf and Elisa Resconi — Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik Heidelberg

This talk gives the status of the current feasibility study for proton decay search in IceCube. For this study a combined simulation approach is used. The proton decay is simulated via GEANT4 in a small volume. Then all produced Cerenkov photons are tracked by an IceCube simulation software using the enormous parallel computing power of graphics processing units (GPUs). With this combined simulation it is possible to take into account the very heterogeneous optical properties of the South Pole glacial ice. The simulation techniques as well as its results are presented in this talk.
