Studies of η decays using the WASA facility at COSY — •Christoph Florian Redmer — Uppsala Universitet, 75120 Uppsala, Sweden

A special feature of the η meson is that all decay modes which proceed via strong and electromagnetic processes are forbidden in the lowest order so that rare decays become experimentally accessible. This feature makes the decays of the η meson a prominent system to study symmetries and patterns of symmetry breaking within the non-perturbative regime of QCD and to test effective theories of hadrons, such as Chiral Perturbation Theory.

The WASA detector has been designed to study the production of light mesons in hadronic interactions and their decays into charged as well as neutral particles. In 2007 data taking of the facility has started at the COSY storage ring in Jülich. Since then, data on η decays have been acquired with large statistics, allowing to study even very rare decay modes. The presentation will provide an overview on the recent results and the future prospects on hadronic, radiative and leptonic decays of the η meson.
