Wind Energy: what to expect within the next ten years — •Andreas Reuter — Fraunhofer IWES, Am Seedeich 45, D-27572 Bremerhaven

Wind energy being the cheapest form of renewable energy is expected to provide a substantial contribution to the future energy mix - on a global level. This triggers several trends: becoming a mass produced commodity for onshore applications in China or a highly sophisticated technology product for far offshore use in Europe. The current technology standards and challenges will be presented for both applications and the short term potential for our energy demands will be highlighted. Expected developments within the next years - including some innovative concepts - will be discussed as well.
