Plasma Density Measurement via THz Time Domain Spectroscopy — •Steffen Marius Meier, Sarah Siepa, Tsanko Vaskov Tsankov, Dirk Luggenhölscher, and Uwe Czarnetzki — Institute for Atomic and Plasma Physics, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany

Terahertz Time Domain Spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is a spectroscopic method which combines the advantages of short ps electromagnetic pulses providing high temporal resolution and a broad spectrum in the THz range. With these properties it is possible to determine the plasma density and the collision frequency via the complex dispersion function of the plasma. Furthermore THz-TDS gives the opportunity to investigate higher density plasmas in comparison to e.g. conventional micro-wave interferometry.

In this work a THz Time Domain Spectrometer is set up to measure plasma densities. The investigations are performed in a magnetic multi-pole ICP-discharge [1,2] where high density plasmas are easily sustained. Results in argon plasmas at low pressures (∼ 1 Pa) are presented. Further, the opportunity to study pulsed plasmas temporally resolved is investigated.
