The case of PLOS ONE — •Eduardo G. Altmann — MPI-PKS Dresden

PLOS ONE is currently the largest scientific journal of the world in number of published articles per year. It shares many similarities with other young journals (open access, creative common license, non-profit publisher), but has also some unique features. For instance, contrary to most journals it is not proud of its (comparatively large) impact factor, and it does not aim at increasing it. Instead, PLOS ONE stimulates and reports paper-specific measures of impact. In this talk I will discuss the theory and praxis behind PLOS ONE, from the perspective of an academic editor.
