Ultrashort pulsed lasers in mass production: Applications and still open questions in fundamental physics — •Jens König and Andreas Michalowski — Robert Bosch GmbH, Postbox 300240, 70442, Stuttgart, Germany

At the Robert Bosch GmbH micro processing with ultrashort laser pulses is established in industrial mass production since 2007. Nowadays more than 20 million Bosch products are already produced using this powerful technique. Anyway, the number of applications and production machines is still growing every year. In perspective we assume in the next years a rise in production of more than 40% annually.

In this contribution several current applications, technical developments and open scientific questions will be addressed. A deeper understanding of the ablation process fundamentals will enable further applications of ultrashort pulses. Our current view of the ablation process in the far threshold fluence regime as well as interesting questions for further research are discussed.
