Influence of non-Maxwellian ions on the dust potential in a flowing magnetized plasma — •Jan-Philip Joost, Patrick Ludwig, Hanno Kählert, and Michael Bonitz — Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, ITAP

The potential of a dust particle in a complex plasma is computed from a dielectric function, which takes ion acceleration by an external electric field explicitly into account, thereby leading to a non-Maxwellian velocity distribution [1]. We consider the case of a non-magnetized plasma as well as the situation where a magnetic field is aligned with the ion flow. In comparison with previous results based on a shifted Maxwellian ion velocity distribution [2], we find that only one positive peak behind the dust grain exists while the rest of the wake potential is largely suppressed.
