Estimation of the tt+Z background for SUSY searches of stop-pair production with the ATLAS detector — •Thorben Swirski — Universität Freiburg

For searches of stop pair production in SUSY models the tt+Z background becomes more important as the stop mass increases, because other backgrounds, like the tt-background, can be more easily seperated by a missing transverse energy cut. The Z, however, may produce large missing ET when decaying into neutrinos. We estimate this process to be non-negligible for SUSY searches at the new center of mass energy of the LHC of √s=13 TeV. Since the cross section of this process is comparatively low, it has not yet been successfully measured. The aim of this study is to first define a suitable control region for this background using Monte Carlo simulations, leading to the subsequent clear observation of the process and an estimation of the contribution to the t pair production by this diagram.
