Energy storage is one of the main concerns of our days. The vastly used lithium-ion battery is close to its theoretical limit; therefore a new system is needed. Lithium-sulphur cells have been intensely researched on for the last year, but there is still much to improve. The aim of the present project is to analyse and identify the processes taking place in a working cell and to propose solutions to the existent issues.

On one side we are focusing on the investigation of particular parts (building blocks) of the cells: current collectors, cathodes and electrolytes. On the other, we are trying to observe the processes inside of a battery. We identify the single elements participating on each reaction step via X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and X-ray absorption spectrometry (XAS).
