The electrochemical properties of lithium metal nitrides Li2Li1−xMxN with M = Fe or Ni and of Li3N are investigated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic cycling. Based on these results, the lithium content and thus the valence of the transition metal ions is altered electrochemically. In addition to XRD studies on the electrochemically treated materials, the effect of delithiation on the magnetic properties is studied by means of SQUID magnetometry. For Li2.7Fe0.3N, electrochemical tuning yields suppression of the initial hard magnetic ground state. In the case of Li2.6Ni0.4N, the paramagnetic response diminishes upon delithiation. Finally, we show perspectives for delithiation procedures in Li3N.
