The top quark is the heaviest known elementary particle and its mass is an important parameter of the standard model (SM) of particle physics. In conjunction with the W and Higgs boson masses and other precision observables, it provides a self-consistency check of the SM and is responsible for the largest part of higher-order corrections to the Higgs boson mass.

At the LHC, top quarks are mainly produced in pairs and the fully hadronic decays have the largest branching fraction. The final state consisting of six jets, two of which initiated by b-quarks, is experimentally challenging. To reconstruct the complete tt system, a kinematic fit is employed, by means of which also background is suppressed. The top quark mass can be extracted using an ideogram method.

At √s=7 TeV and 8 TeV the top quark mass has been determined with this method using data recorded with the CMS detector. In this talk the progress of the analysis for the LHC Run II at √s=13 TeV is presented.
