We report a comparative Raman study on the layered, 2D multiferroic compounds Ni3TeO6 and PbNi6Mn2Te3O18. The emergence of 2-magnon scattering enables a characterization of their magnetic subsystems. Phonon anomalies below the magnetic ordering temperatures evidence a strong coupling between lattice and spin degrees of freedom in both systems.
