A Molecular Zeeman slowing scheme — •Paul Kaebert, Niklas Reinhardt, Maurice Petzold, Philipp Gersema, Mirco Siercke, and Silke Ospelkaus — Institut für Quantenoptik

We report on our progress in implementing a novel scheme for slowing laser-coolable, buffer-gas cooled molecules, reminiscent of Zeeman slowing. We show the results of our proof of principle experiment, realizing the scheme on the D1-line of 39K, and detail our progress on performing the experiment on molecules. From our theoretical simulations and our experimental results we expect the technique to outperform current slowing methods, and hope that the resulting large flux of trappable molecules will be the enhancement needed to produce large, ultra-cold ensembles of directly cooled molecules.
