Future compact Free Electron Lasers driven by X-band LINACs or laser plasma accelerators might strongly benefit from the application of short-period superconducting undulators wound from high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape. We present parameters studies exploring the potential of the HTS undulator technology for future compact FELs.
