The decision to choose a career path after academic training or research is far from obvious, especially if someone is quite fond of the academic world. The choice becomes even more complicated given that physicists have plenty of options due to a skill set (analytical thinking, methodical problem solving, modelling & programming skills, etc.) which can be applied successfully to many different jobs. As an editor working for the Nature Research group, one steps away from academia but it still stays very close to it: by reading cutting-edge research within a broad scope of different but related research topics, by visiting conferences and by communicating science. But how does a typical day at the office look like? What are the tasks an editor has to do? What about the freedom to work independently as known from university? Work-life balance? We will answer these questions and all other question regarding the job as an editor which you might have.
