The Innovationssemester of the Wissensregion Duesseldorf is a new didactical approach of learning and teaching, where young people of different disciplines and institutions work together in joint projects. These institutions comprise in Duesseldorf the university, the universities of applied sciences, institutions of craftmen, industry and administration. The Wissensregion Duesseldorf offers projects and courses addressing projects of social relevance or technical importance. This contribution focuses on the project of construction and design of low-cost ambient dust sensors. Some highlights of this project are: Co-teaching is applied with different instructors for technical and medical topics of air pollution. The students coming from different disciplines and institutions can help each other in studying different aspects of the project. Own dust measurements by the students can give a personal insight and relation to the topic of air pollution. Actual dust measurement results gained by students will be presented within this contribution.
