Comparison of Spatiotemporal Turbulent Structures Measured with Doppler Reflectometry in the Tokamak ASDEX Upgrade with Gyrokinetic Simulations — •David Stockinger1,2, Klara Höfler1,2, Tim Happel2, Tobias Görler2, Ulrich Stroth1,2, and the ASDEX Upgrade Team21Physics Department TUM, E28, Garching, Germany — 2Max Planck Institut für Plasmaphysik, Garching, Germany

Plasma turbulence drives transport of particles and energy in magnetically confined fusion plasmas and thus determines the energy confinement, which is of key importance for the development of a fusion reactor. A better knowledge of the turbulence properties is crucial for the prediction of the performance of future devices. Theory develops gyrokinetic simulation codes to describe the turbulence and its associated particle and heat transport. In order to comprehensively test the physical models implemented is such codes, detailed comparison with experiment is required. On the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak, Doppler reflectometry is used to measure turbulence properties at various structure sizes. The strategy for the comparison of experimental data and equivalent quantities deduced from simulation results will be presented together with the first measurements.
