Short-lived neutron-rich Ni-isotopes have been studied at the Leuven Isotope Separator On-Line (LISOL) using a chemically selective Ion Guide Laser Ion Source (IGLIS) based on resonant ionisation of atoms [1]. The β-decay properties of different Ni-isotopes have been studied by the means of β γ-spectroscopy.
The neutron-rich Ni-isotopes are produced by proton induced fission (Ep = 65 MeV) of 238U. In the Helium gas of the ion guide the fission-products are neutralised before they are ionised with a two step laser exciation. After the laser ionisation they are mass separated and detected. The fission cross sections of 69−73Ni were deduced from β- and β-gated γ-spectra. In the present experiment it was possible to observe for the first time γ-rays for 71Ni, even in the case of mass 73 there is some evidence for one possible γ- line. Comparing spectra on-resonance and off-resonance it can be seen, that the observed Cu activity is only produced by the decay of the Ni- isotopes. The results will be presented and discussed in detail.
