Probing leading effects in Σ–nucleus collisions by charm production [1] — •Eugene Chudakov — Universität Heidelberg

Leading effects cause differences between the production of particles which have quarks in common with the beam (leading particles) and those that do not (not-leading particles). In order to explore the role of this effect for the production of charmed hadrons, the WA89 collaboration at CERN studied the production of D-mesons and Λc baryons by a 340 GeV/c Σ hyperon beam. Relative yields of leading (e.g. D) and non-leading (e.g. D+) charmed mesons will be compared to results from previous experiments using π and proton beams [2]. In addition first results on the ratio Λc+ / Λc will be presented.
