The in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section is a basic input quantity for the numerical simulation of heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies [1]. Based on the Paris potential as the nucleon-nucleon interaction we present a microscopic calculation of neutron-proton and neutron-neutron cross sections in symmetric nuclear matter. Using the thermodynamic T matrix approach [2] we investigate the temperature and density dependence of this quantity in a systematic way. Since the cross section is a function of many variables we carry out an average procedure which is closely related to the occurrence of the cross section in the collisional integral in the BUU equation. Moreover, we provide linear or quadratic parametrizations of the density and temperature dependence of the averaged cross sections in order to make them easily accessable for practical applications.
