Solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation for the nucleon — •R. B"aurle, U. Zückert, G. Hellstern, R. Alkofer, and H. Reinhardt — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Auf der Morgenstelle 14, 72076 Tübingen

Arguments for describing baryons as bound states of quarks and diquarks interacting through quark exchange are shortly reviewed. The corresponding Bethe-Salpeter equation is derived, and its expansion in hyperspherical coordinates in momentum space is presented.

Numerical results for two different cases are discussed. Either quarks and diquarks are treated as elementary particles, or the corresponding propagators are chosen to be free of poles thereby simulating confinement. Whereas the ultraviolet behavior of the resulting nucleon Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes are qualitatively equal in both cases one obtains characteristic differences in the infrared.
