3D-model of ionospheric sporadic E-layers as current generators — •C.-V. Meister 1), V.A. Liperovsky 2), and S.A. Senchenkov 3) — 1) University Potsdam, WIP-Project Space Plasma Physics, 2) Institute of Physics of the Earth Moscow

The generation of Hall and field-aligned currents in nighttime midlatitude sporadic E-layers and in their vicinity moving under the action of strong pulses of neutral winds is considered. The existence of one sporadic layer or of two layers connected by the same geomagnetic field lines is permitted. The influence of the electrical polarization fields at the horizontal edges of the sporadic layers and the finite conductivity of the external circuit are also taken into account. The theoretical model applicable for ionospheric altitudes between 95 km and 115 km is numerically analysed for different possible geomagnetic conditions. The estimates show, that in certain rare situations in a sporadic layer the Farley-Buneman instability seems to be excitable. Above the horizontal edges of the sporadic layers a generation of ionacoustic waves may also be possible.
