High quality Fen Vm (001) superlattices were epitaxially grown on MgO (001) substrates in an UHV-based sputtering system. Their magnetic properties were studied by vibrating sample magnetometry, ferromagnetic resonance and magneto-optic Kerr effect experiments. By decreasing the Fe-layer thickness n (expressed in monolayers - ML), a reduction of the magnetization per Fe-volume at 10 K was observed, originating from a supression of the Fe-moment at the Fe-V interface [1]. In addition, the in-plane anisotropy, favoring the [100] crystallographic direction, decreases and the films become isotropic at a critical thickness of n=3 ML. Hysteresis loops with bilinear and biquadratic exchange coupling features [2] were recorded for a V-layer thickness of m=13 ML and were theoretically reproduced using a phenomenological model.
