Local non-collinearity of the spin and orbital magnetization densities — •K. Kn"opfle, L.M. Sandratskii, and J. K"ubler — Institut für Festkörperphysik, Technische Hochschule, 64289 Darmstadt

We show that the effect of a continuous space-variation of the direction of the spin magnetization can be obtained already within the atomic sphere approximation. In addition, we calculate the space variation of the orbital moment direction and show that these two magnetization densities possess different directions at the same space point. We elucidate both densities for a number of Uranium compounds and supply symmetry arguments necessary for understanding the properties of the integrated atomic moments which can be both collinear or non-collinear.
