NMR of Plant Water Balance — •T. J. Schaafsma — Wageningen NMR Centre, Dept. Molecular Physics, WAU, Wageningen

Using NMR methods developed at the Dept. of Molecular Physics, waterflow through transportvessels and tissue watercontent of plants under pysiologically controlled laboratory conditions as well as in greenhouse crops can be measured and related to their water balance. The NMR results can be understood by applying a model, describing evaporation, uptake, and storage of water in the plant using the waterpotential as a crucial parameter.
