Stark Optogalvanic Laser Spectroscopy of Rydberg atoms [1], Selection Excitation Spectroscopy and Absorption Spectroscopy techniques [2] are suggested for implementation in the hollow-cathode phase of a Pseudospark discharge. The primary goal is to obtain quantitative data on plasma parameters (time-and spatial distribution of the electric field, density and temperature of electrons and heavy particles) in the hollow cathode- and main gap of a pseudospark discharge chamber. So far the experiments are at an early stage, therefore only preliminary data is available. Hydrogen atoms excited to low Rydberg states are used as test particles for the electric field maps in copper electrodes. Further extension of the same experiment involves use of helium as working gas and molybdenum for the electrodes. Finally the principles of a semi-empirical model, based on Monte-Carlo simulations are discussed and, if possible, compared with experimental results.
