Development of a code for linear drift waves in stellarators — •Ralf Kleiber — Max- Planck- Institut für Plasmaphysik, Teilinstitut Greifswald, Walther- Rathenau- Str. 49a, D-17498 Greifswald

Very little work has been done on drift waves in stellarators. As a first step to gain some insight we used the two-fluid-equations together with the assumptions of cold ions and adiabatic isothermal electrons to derive an eigenvalue equation for electrostatic drift waves valid in general three-dimensional geometry without recourse to the generally used ballooning formalism. In magnetic coordinates this equation is discretized by using Fourier decomposition and finite-differences in the flux label. The resulting quadratic eigenvalue problem is solved by a complex Arnoldi method. We present first numerical results of spectra and eigenfunctions.
