Static Properties of Baryons in a Relativistic Quark Model — •Luis Prado, Bernard Metsch, and Herbert Petry — Institut für Theoretische Kernphysik, Nu"sallee 14 – 16, D–53115 Bonn

The electric radii and the magnetic moments are calculated for the baryon-octet in a relativistic quark model. The baryons are treated as bound states of three valence quarks in a framework of an instantaneous Bethe-Salpeter equation. By investigating the composite system in the presence of an external electromagnetic field it is shown that in the static limit two approaches, namely, the Mandelstam formalism and minimal coupling are compatible. A phenomenological model with a specified confinement structure and instanton-induced interactions is proposed and its parameters are fit to yield the correct spectrum and static properties. The extension to weak interactions is performed in a straightforward way and the axial coupling constant gA(0) and the axial-radius is calculated without any new parameter. The results are compared with experimental data and other models.
