Recognition of electromagnetic showerfluctuations in the BaBar calorimeter — •Helmut Schmücker and the BaBar Collaboration (german part) — Institut für Experimentalphysik I, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Universitätsstr. 150

The primary physics goal of the BaBar experiment is the systematic study of CP asymmetries in the decays of the B0 and B0 into CP eigenstates. This requires observing π 0s with very high efficiency and good resolution. Therefore the electromagnetic calorimeter must have superb energy resolution down to very low energies. At these low energies the reconstruction of photons is disturbed by fluctuations in electromagnetic showers. A system of artificial neural networks is used to separate photons and fluctuations. These networks are also trained for π 0-selection.
