Crystal Barrel Experiment at ELSA/Bonn — •J. H"o"sl, Universit"at Erlangen-N"urnberg and CB-ELSA

The Crystal Barrel detector[1] was operated successfully since 1990 at LEAR/ CERN delivering high quality meson spectroscopy data (e.g. discovery of fo(1500)) in pp-collisions. In 1997 the Crystal Barrel moved to Bonn. First photo- and electroproduction measurement will start in autumn 1998 at ELSA.

The 4π-geometry and the high granularity of the calorimeter allow a precise and efficient detection of photons from decaying particles. Thus the main goal of the experiments will be concentrated on the measurement of the production and decay of particles leading to multi-photon final states (π0, η, η′...). In addition detector components like a scintillating fibre vertex detector, TOF walls and a magnetic spectrometer will provide the detection of charged particles.

The experimental setup for the planned measurements and the physics aims of CB-ELSA will be presented and discussed in detail.
