Measurement of the GDH-Sum Rule with the Frozen-Spin Target BICEPS — •Christian Bradtke — Physikalisches Institut der Universität Bonn

December 1997 a measurement of the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Sum Rule starts at MAMI in Mainz (Eγ= 140−850 MeV)

This measurement requires a circular-polarized photon beam and a longitudinal-polarized proton target. Because of the desired large acceptance and the special geometry of the 4π-Detector DAPHNE, a Frozen-Spin Target is used. The central part of this new target BICEPS is the horizontal dilution refrigerator, which is build up around the beam line and has a minimum temperature of 50 mK. The magnet system consists of a horizontal polarizing magnet with a maximum field of 6.5 T and an internal holding coil. This internal holding coil is wound on the inner heat shield of the refrigerator. Its thickness of only 500µ m allows scattered particles to traverse. We will report on GDH-measurement with BICEPS.
