During the last year the laser ion source (LIS), in which stepwise resonant laser ionization is performed inside a high temperature cavity, became the most used ion source at the on-line isotope separator ISOLDE. It has been extended to four new elements [1]: Be, Zn, Cu and Cd.

The first resonant transition of the elements Be, Zn and Cd (ionization potentials > 9 eV) is in the far ultraviolet region. The intense UV beam was achieved in a new laser setup via frequency tripling.

All particle stable beryllium isotopes from 7Be to 14Be were separated and their isotope shift was observed.

The high chemical selectivity of the LIS allowed also to gain a wealth of new spectroscopic information (10 new halflives, …) in on-line runs with the elements Mn, Zn and Ag. For the first time high- and low-spin isomers of silver were separated selectively using the hyperfine splitting.

Thanks for support by the ’Beschleunigerlaboratorium der TU und LMU München’.
