A polarized target for the measurement of the depolarisation & spin transfer in ppΛΛ — •Michael Plueckthun1, C. Bradtke1, H. Dutz1, R. Gehring2, St. Goertz2, W. Meyer2, and G. Reicherz21Physikalisches Institut der Universit"at Bonn, 53115 Bonn — 2Institut f"ur experimentelle Physik der Universit"at Bochum 1, 44780 Bochum

The use of the Bonn Frozen Spin Target at the experiment PS185/3-LEAR/CERN allowes the determination of the spin configuration of the reaction ppΛΛ. Measurements of the spin transfer from the polarized target proton to the final state hyperon can distinguish between proposed ss production scenarios, which provide new experimental input to the question of the strange quarks/antiquarks as carriers of part of the spin of the nucleon.

Data has been taken at three different antiproton momenta of 1525–1800 MeV/c with a beam intensity of 500 kHz. The average target polarization was 64 %, maintained by an internal holding coil during beam time. For the first time a TEMPO-doped butanol block target (0.25 cm3) was employed to maximize the filling factor.
