Nuclear self-energy in the relativistic Brueckner approach — •C Fuchs, A Faessler, and T Waindzoch — Institut f"ur Theoretische Physik, Universit"at T"ubingen, Auf der Morgenstelle 14, D-72076 T"ubingen

The relativistic Brueckner approach has been very successful in the description of nuclear matter saturation properties. Although different approximations to the full problem, i.e. the self-consistent solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the nuclear medium, have led to converging results with respect to the bulk properties, e.g. the nuclear equation of state, the behavior of the scalar and vector self-energy components is still a question of current debate. We solve the relativistic Thompson equation using the Bonn potentials and extract the self-energy by the projection onto covariant amplitudes [1]. We observe a remarkably strong momentum dependence of the nuclear mean field inside the Fermi sea [2]. Ambiguites arising in the extraction of the self-energy and in the comparison of different approaches are discussed.
