The deuteron in the Skyrme model — •Th. Waindzoch — Institut f"ur Theoretische Physik, Universit"at T"ubingen, Auf der Morgenstelle 14, D-72076 T"ubingen

The Skyrme model, as a semi-classical model of QCD in the non-perturbative regime, is quite successful in describing low-energy hadronic physics. Starting from a classical topological skyrmion solution, the calculated single-baryon properties are in qualitative agreement with measured physical values [1]. It remains, however, a challenging problem to obtain a description of the deuteron within the picture of interacting skyrmions. To study the two-skyrmion sector in more detail, we analyse the unstable manifold of the baryon number B=2 sector numerically using the gradient-flow method [2]. We calculate different paths of steepest descent and deduce an approximate description of the skyrmion dynamics in terms of collective degrees of freedom. The resulting collective coordinate Hamiltonian can be used to determine approximately the properties of the deuteron within the model. We discuss the problems encountered during the approach and present first results obtained for the deuteron.
