A transition to (soft) quantum chaos was claimed to appear in the (X1Σg+) state of CS2 at energies above 13000 cm−1. This assumption was based on the results of experiments in which a frequency doubled CuHBr-laser pumped dye laser had been used to excite the P(2)-absorption line of the 15V band in the V1B2 state of the molecule in a gas cell. The highly excited vibrational states of the X1Σg+ state could be detected by LIDFS, using a (f=2)-monochromator and a LN2 cooled CCD-camera. Recently, the same experiments done with a supersonic beam (Trot= 10K) proved that the P(2) excitation is not isolated even in the jet with our laser resolution. As it was possible to isolate the R(0) the same initial state could be populated for our experiment as formerly with the P(2). These LIDF spectra show extra-lines when comparing them with the spectra obtained with the R(0). These lines have a fatal influence on the statistics (nearest neighbour distribution and averaged Fourier Transform) of the vibrational spectrum from 13000 to 19000cm−1.
