Selective Infrared Multiphoton Dissociation of Silane — •J. Makowe, O. V. Boiarkine, and T. R. Rizzo — DC-LCPM, EPFL, 1015 Lausanne, Schweiz

An efficient collision free Infrared Multiphoton Dissociation (IR MPD) of SiH4 molecules has been achieved using a line tunable home-made high power NH3 laser pumped by a TEA CO2 laser. This has been used for selective IR MPD of SiH4 molecules, vibrationally preexcited by a near IR laser to the first SiH stretch overtone level. The near IR laser can be tuned for rotational selective preexcitation of SiH4 molecules, followed by IR MPD producing SiH2 fragments. By optimization of energy, fluence and wavelength of the dissociating laser it is possible to achieve high dissociation yield for vibrationally preexcited molecules without significant dissociation of ground state molecules.
