NO,CO, N2 and Ar on clean and H-covered RU(0001): exotic scattering phenomena from a reactive system — •S. Stolte, B. Berenbak, D.A. Butler, and B. Riedm"uller — Dept. of Chemistry, Laser Centre, De Boelelaan 1083, 1081 HV Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The interaction dynamics of NO on the highly reactive Ru(0001) and Ru(0001)-H surface have been studied. On the clean Ru(0001) surface the initial sticking probability of a supersonic molecular beam is extremely high ( >70 angular distribution. The sticking on the Ru(0001)-H is much reduced (40 In contrast to the clean surface an extremely sharp, specular angular distribution is observed. This is also observed for the scattering of CO from Ru(0001)-H but here the sticking is absent, allowing detailed study of the scattering channel. These are compared to N2 and Ar scattering, giving exotic and sometimes unexplained phenomena.
