Interlayer magnetotransport in the layered organic superconductor κ -(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(NCS)2 — •Mark Kartsovnik1, Klaus Andres1, Kazumi Maki2, and Harald Mueller31Walther-Meissner-Institut, Walther-Meissner-str. 8, D-85748 Garching, Germany — 2Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA 90089-0484 USA — 3European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, B.P. 220, F-38043 Grenoble, France

Inter- and in-plane resistance of κ -(BEDT-TTF)2 Cu(NCS)2 has been studied in the vicinity of the superconducting transition under magnetic field. A strong peak near Tc or Hc2 exceeding the normal state resistance is found to be an inherent feature of the inter-plane resistance. The height of the peak depends on the sample quality, becoming larger with increasing scattering time. The effect is suggested to be a result of the density-of-states fluctuations dominating over all other fluctuation contributions near Tc in clean highly anisotropic SNS multilayers and confirms the quasi-two-dimensional nature of the superconductivity in this compound.

Strongly non-monotonic behaviour of the inter-layer resistance has been found at rotating the κ -(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(NCS)2 crystal in magnetic field Hc2⊥ < H < Hc2|| . The angular dependence of the mixed state magnetoresistance is discussed in relation to specific pinning effects in a Q2D superconductor in a tilted magnetic field.
