Coulomb Dissociation (CD) of 8B into 7Be+p is an alternative approach to determine the S-factor for the 7Be(p,γ)-reaction. In experiments at RIKEN, the CD of 8B has been studied at about 50 A MeV [1,2]. At GSI we have measured the same reaction at 255 A MeV using a secondary 8B beam from the FRS.The KaoS spectrometer was used to observe both breakup products in coincidence. The CD cross section has been evaluated in the c.m.-energy range from ≈ 0.2 - 3 MeV. Good agreement with results of a recent direct-reaction study [3] favours the lower-value S17-factor.
