Investigation of K+ and K Mesons at Midrapidity in the heavy-ion reaction 96Ru+96Ru @ 1.69A·GeV at low transverse momenta — •Christoph Plettner — GSI Darmstadt, Uni Heidelberg, FZ Rossendorf, IPNE Bucharest, KFKI Budapest, LPC Clermont-Ferrand, ITEP/KI Moskau, Korea University, South Korea, Uni Warshaw, Poland, CRN Strasbourg, RBI Zagreb

An important fingerprint for in-medium modifications of kaons in hot and dense nuclear matter is the K/K+ ratio. If there are in-medium modifications, transport models predict that this ratio would increase strongly at low transverse momenta. Therefore we have analyzed data taken with the 4π detector FOPI at the heavy-ion synchrotron SIS at GSI Darmstadt. The investigated system is 96Ru+96Ru at an incident energy of 1.69 A·GeV. Using the drift chamber Helitron kaons in the midrapidity region (−0.3 < Ycm0 < 0.3) within a transverse momenta range of 100 MeV/c < pT < 250 MeV/c can be studied. Clear K+ and K signals are extracted from the data when using strict cuts. Nevertheless, in both cases the signal to noise ratio approximately is 1:1. Thus in order to give the K/K+ ratio for this system at low pT, the background had to be treated very carefully.
