Upgrade of a magnetic spectrograph to 3 times higher magnetic rigidity — •W. Klimala — Institute of Physics, Jagellonian University, ul. Reymonta 4, PL-30059 Cracow, Poland

The collaboration has several plans for experiments - among them the search for isospin symmetry breaking in p+d3A0,+ close to η-production threshold and in d+d → α+π0 - where a fast recoiling particle has a large momentum to be bind by the magnetic spectrograph BIG KARL to its focal plane. The limiting momentum is 1080 MeV/c for protons.

In order to overcome this boundary, an exit in the side yoke of the first dipole was installed. Particles emerging there can have two to four times the magnetic rigidity of the central momentum. In contrast to the normal focal plane with a constant dispersion, the dispersion in this area is momentum dependent. We have equipped this area with detectors - sets of multi-wire drift chambers and scintillator hodoscopes - which allow track reconstruction. Results of test measurements will be presented.
