Despite the existence of two high efficent 4 π-γ arrays (GAMMASPHERE and EUROBALL) optimized for nuclear structure studies of high spin superdeformed states, many unsolved questions about the nuclear structure of super-deformed(SD) and hyper-deformed(HD) nuclei still remain. With subbarrier fission resonance experiments at the Munich Tandem Accelerator Lab we recently gained very interesting new results about the gross nuclear structure of the SD- and HD-states in the actinide region. Sharp transmission resonances have been observed in the 233U(d,pf) and the 239Pu(d,pf) reactions, and could be interpreted as hyperdeformed rotational bands in 234U and superdeformed rotational bands in 240Pu. In the 233U(d,pf)234U for which we used the first target form the new Radioactive Target Laboratory in Munich, 11 rotational bands were identified. Together with the data from the angular distribution of the fission fragments and the extracted nuclear level densities, the depth of the third well was determined to (3.6±0.3) MeV. By measuring the fission probability of 240Pu as a function of excitation energy in the 239Pu(d,pf) reaction information about all K=0+ bands in the energy region of the second and third phonon of the second minimum was obtained.
