Relation between electron emission and energy loss in ion-surface interactions at grazing incidence — •C. Lemell and J. Burgdörfer — Institut für Theoretische Physik, TU Wien, Wiedner Hauptstr. 8-10, A-1040 Wien, Österreich

In a recently developed experiment Lemell et al. [1, 2] measured the number of emitted electrons in coincidence with the scattering angle of reflected primary particles as well as the energy loss they suffer during the interaction.

Using molecular-dynamics simulations it could be shown that differences in the electron emission statistics and energy loss can be related to different projectile trajectories. A microscopic description of the electron emission and the energy loss entering the simulation will be discussed. Results of further investigations on the relation between electron emission and stopping power and the suppression of kinetic emission are presented.
