Application of 2D-LIF for Ion Current Evaluation — •A. Franke and A. Saitzkoff — Lund Institute of Technology

The fuel-to-air equivalence ratio (φ) is one of the most important parameters affecting the combustion process in a spark-ignition engine. Techniques used today, e.g. oxygen sensors placed in the exhaust gases are only capable of giving an overall information about the equivalence ratio. One promising technique yielding values of φ in the proximity of the spark gap is ion sensing.

The goal of this poster is to present results of experiments trying to verify the ion current technique by means of two-dimensional laser induced fluorescence. Spatially resolved information on φ obtained by LIF is therefore compared with a number of features in the ion current trace. Various fuels, mixing times and electrode geometries have been investigated.
