Using surface x-ray diffraction we have investigated the atomic structure of the c(2x2) reconstructed Fe3O4(100) surface. Among the oxide surface investigations, surfaces of the spinel-structured phases like Fe3O4 are of special interest, mainly because of the widespread natural occurrrence and the interesting physical and structural properties of the bulk spinels. As for many oxide surfaces also for the (100) surface only a preliminary structure model exists proposing the c(2x2) reconstruction due to an ordered array of tetrahedral Fe vacancies [1]. Using a wavelength of λ = 0.887 Å we measured in total 276 reflections along half order and integer order rods (CTRs) up to a maximum momentum transfer of 4.20 reciprocal lattice units. The refinement including the Fe- defect as well as lateral relaxations of the O-atoms next to the defects yields a Goodness of Fit (GOF) in the range of 2, which is in favour with the defect model. The data analysis including the out of plane rods is still in progress.
